Stay At Home Book Tag (Tiggity Tag Friday)

1: LAYING IN BED: What is a book you could read in one day?

I absolutely love Karen M McManus’s writing. Her books are short and super engaging. Plus, who doesn’t love a good ‘who dun it?’ novel? I know I’m defintely a fan. For this one I’d like to pick her debut novel, and her most recognised novel, One of Us is Lying.

2: SNACKING ALL DAY: What is your guilty pleasure Read?

Anything Sarah J Maas. She’s my default setting when it comes to reading. I just find her books so compelling, and fun. There’s action, there’s romance, and there’s fun banter. What more do you want?

3: NETFLIX: What’s a series you want to start?

I really, really, really want to start Cinda Williams Chima’s series, Seven Realms. It looks soooo good. Man, it’s been a while since I’ve serously invested myself in a good fantasy book, and that one might just be the one that steals my heart.

Description: Times are hard in the mountain city of Fellsmarch. Reformed thief Han Alister will do almost anything to eke out a living for his family. The only thing of value he has is something he can’t sell—the thick silver cuffs he’s worn since birth. They’re clearly magicked—as he grows, they grow, and he’s never been able to get them off.
One day, Han and his clan friend, Dancer, confront three young wizards setting fire to the sacred mountain of Hanalea. Han takes an amulet from Micah Bayar, son of the High Wizard, to keep him from using it against them. Soon Han learns that the amulet has an evil history—it once belonged to the Demon King, the wizard who nearly destroyed the world a millennium ago. With a magical piece that powerful at stake, Han knows that the Bayars will stop at nothing to get it back.
Meanwhile, Raisa ana’Marianna, princess heir of the Fells, has her own battles to fight. She’s just returned to court after three years of freedom in the mountains—riding, hunting, and working the famous clan markets. Raisa wants to be more than an ornament in a glittering cage. She aspires to be like Hanalea—the legendary warrior queen who killed the Demon King and saved the world. But her mother has other plans for her…
The Seven Realms tremble when the lives of Hans and Raisa collide, fanning the flames of the smoldering war between clans and wizards.

4: DEEP CLEAN: What’s a book that has been on your TBR for ages?

Okay, let me start this by saying that I love Rainbow Rowell. I do, with all my heart. The thing is, I still haven’t read Carry On. Despite Fangirl being one of my top ranking contemporary novels, I still haven’t gotten my hands on Carry On, and that’s one of my biggest flaws.

Description: Simon Snow is the worst Chosen One who’s ever been chosen.
That’s what his roommate, Baz, says. And Baz might be evil and a vampire and a complete git, but he’s probably right.
Half the time, Simon can’t even make his wand work, and the other half, he starts something on fire. His mentor’s avoiding him, his girlfriend broke up with him, and there’s a magic-eating monster running around, wearing Simon’s face. Baz would be having a field day with all this, if he were here — it’s their last year at the Watford School of Magicks, and Simon’s infuriating nemesis didn’t even bother to show up.

5: ANIMAL CROSSING: What’s a book you bought because of hype?

Let’s travel back a few years shall we; and by a few years, I do of course mean about 13 of them. This is the book that won my heart, the book that gets so much hate, but I still love. And yes, of course it’s Twilight by Stephanie Meyer. It’s the book that let me fall in love with not only reading, but Young Adult novels as well. I will always treasure that book no matter how many people shun it.

Description: (not that it really needs one) About three things I was absolutely positive.
First, Edward was a vampire.
Second, there was a part of him—and I didn’t know how dominant that part might be—that thirsted for my blood.
And third, I was unconditionally and irrevocably in love with him.
Deeply seductive and extraordinarily suspenseful, Twilight is a love story with bite.

6: PRODUCTIVITY: What’s a book you’ve learnt from or has had an impact on you?

I’m currently reading The Elements of Style by William Strunk Jr and E.B White, and it’s one of the best books on grammar that I’ve read. It’s a short little book, only 70 or 80 so pages, but it covers everything you need to know on the English language. If you’re a writer, I highly recommend picking this one up.

Description: This style manual offers practical advice on improving writing skills. Throughout, the emphasis is on promoting a plain English style. This little book can help you communicate more effectively by showing you how to enliven your sentences.

7: FACETIME: What’s a book you’ve been gifted?

Recently I was gifted two books by my friend over at @readerinspace on Instagram, and I cannot wait to dive into them! It’s Birthday by Meredith Russo and History is All You Left Me by Adam Silvera. I can’t thank you enough Alex!

Description for Birthday: Two kids, Morgan and Eric, are bonded for life after being born on the same day at the same time. We meet them once a year on their shared birthday as they grow and change: as Eric figures out who he is and how he fits into the world, and as Morgan makes the difficult choice to live as her true self. Over the years, they will drift apart, come together, fight, make up, and break up—and ultimately, realize how inextricably they are a part of each other.

Description for History is All You Left Me: When Griffin’s first love and ex-boyfriend, Theo, dies in a drowning accident, his universe implodes. Even though Theo had moved to California for college and started seeing Jackson, Griffin never doubted Theo would come back to him when the time was right. But now, the future he’s been imagining for himself has gone far off course.
To make things worse, the only person who truly understands his heartache is Jackson. But no matter how much they open up to each other, Griffin’s downward spiral continues. He’s losing himself in his obsessive compulsions and destructive choices, and the secrets he’s been keeping are tearing him apart.
If Griffin is ever to rebuild his future, he must first confront his history, every last heartbreaking piece in the puzzle of his life.

8: SELF CARE: Name one thing you’ve done to look after yourself.

I’ve taken an abundances of baths, and I bought myself a Nintendo Switch. I’m here to set a new level of relaxation for myself. Aw yeah.

9: BONUS ROUND: Name a book coming out soon to pre-order.

I might just tell you to zip over to another post I made this week called ‘May Book Birthdays‘. There’s five books I’m hyped about in that post!
