The Writer Tag (Tiggity Tag Friday)

I love to write, and I love to answer questions. So, how about we combine the two?

I found this tag on Inkblots and Icebergs’s website. Definitely check them out!

Let’s get into the questions!

1: What type of writing do you do?

I absolutely love, love, love writing fiction. I suppose you could also could blog writing, as I spend a lot of my time writing for Written on the Pages 😀

2: What genres and/or topics do you write about?

I love to write Young Adult fiction. I started with writing contemporary, but lately I’ve been super passionate about writing fantasy. I absolutely love writing fantasy! Haha

3: How long have you been writing?

Since I was 12, so, going on thirteen years this year!

4: Are you published?

Not yet, but that’s the dream 🤩

5: What was the first story you ever wrote?

I’m not sure if you count it, but when I was six I wrote a story about a unicorn that didn’t want to belong with the rest of the horses, and instead joined a family of rhinos.

My first actual story was an LGBT story of a boy that lived in a bad area with an abusive father. He ends up falling in love with another boy from his school. It ends up with his father getting arrested, and the boy ending up having to move away from his new love to live with a new family.

6: Why do you write?

Because it makes me happy. I love slipping away to another world, learning about these characters and lives that I’ll never live any other way. I love learning about the strange and peculiar ideas that my brain can discover, and expeirience a whole new world.

7: How do you find time to write?

I usually get up early before work, and write for an hour or two in the mornings. I also like to write on my days off if I have the time. (Like today, I’ve written 3000 words! 🎉

8: When is the best time to write? And where do you like to write?

The morning is when my brain tends to work best. I like writing at home, because that’s where my pets are, but I also like getting out of the house, and writing at a cafe or the library. It good to experience something new.

9: Favourite foods/drinks while writing?

I guess I don’t really have any favourite snacks. I like chips (especially salt and vinegar or atomic tomato), and Coke No Sugar, but I wouldn’t call them my ‘favourites’.

I’ve recently had to change my entire diet in order to be healthier, so my favourites are still a learning curve.

10: Your writing playlist?

I actually can’t listen to music while I write, I get disctracted and can’t focus.

11: What do family/friends/loved ones think of you writing?

I’m not sure, let me go ask my Mum haha

Mum says that I’m an inspiration. That it’s good that I’ve found something I like doing.

SHE’S SO SWEET!

12: Parts of writing that you like most?

I love editing the second draft. Once the essential bones of the first draft have been laid.

13: Parts of writing you find challenging?

The first draft is easily the hardest. Making sure what my brain thinks transfers well to the page, and making sure that what I’m writing actually makes much sense at all.

14: What do you write with/on?

I swap between my laptop–using Microsoft Word– and just the classic notebook and pen.

15: How do you overcome writer’s block?

Just write. If it’s still not working, put it down, and try again tomorrow.

If it really isn’t working, try reading what you’ve already written.

16: How do you motivate yourself to write?

I love watching writing vlogs – Kate Cavanaugh in particular. I highly, highly recommend going and checking her out!

17: Authors who inspire you as a writer?

Sarah J Maas. Lynette Noni. Stephanie Meyer. Rainbow Rowell. John Green.

18: Books that inspire you as a writer?

Uhhh, I’m going to have to refer back to question 17. I couldn’t pin it down to a few books.

19: Best advice you’ve gotten as a writer?

Write because you love it, don’t write because you think you’ll get something out of it.

20: Writing goals this year?

To get a book published. To finish my current WIP. I’ll accept either haha.
