I’m swooping in with a new Tiggity Tag Friday, here to deliver the answers to 20 questions you didn’t ask. You’re welcome! Now let’s move onto the show. (Stole this from Paper Fury – cheers!)
1. How many books are too many for a series?
Look, I’m not the biggest series fan. I mean, if I LOVE a series, I obviously want it to go forever, but I don’t think it’s realistic. I think that the plot can become overdone, or the characters change to the point that you don’t recognise them. I think series should never be more than 10 books, I think beyond that it’s getting a little ridiculous. (But that’s just my opinion, please don’t egg me)
2. How do you feel about cliffhangers?
Welllllll, if I have the next book handy, I don’t mind ’em! But otherwise I’m ready to yank my hair out. You see, the thing about cliffhangers is the undeniable fact of having to wait, and the poor thing with having to wait is that detail is lost. You can forget why that moment was so critical, and why it’s so important to have the next one NOW. You know? So, I guess I’m not really a fan of cliffhangers.
3. Hardcover or Paperback?
Hardcover to gush over, but paperback to read.
4. Favourite book?
Oh gosh. Uhm, I’m just going to make a paragraph of stellar books that you should read. Deal? Deal.
Speak – Laurie Halse Anderson | A Court of Thorns and Roses – Sarah J Maas | Throne of Glass – Sarah J Maas | Stalking Jack the Ripper – Kerri Maniscalco | Sorcery of Thorns – Margaret Rogerson | The Miseducation of Cameron Post | Whisper – Lynette Noni | Akarnae – Lynette Noni | Rayne and Delilah’s Midnite Matinee – Jeff Zentner | How it Feels to Float – Helena Fox | It Sounded Better in my Head – Nina Kenwood | The Black Witch – Laurie Forest | The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue – Mackenzi Lee | Carve the Mark – Veronica Roth | The Unexpected Everything – Morgan Matson | Risk – Fleur Ferris | I Have Lost My Way – Gayle Forman | Daughter of the Pirate King – Tricia Levenseller
5. Least Favourite Book?
I don’t like to harp on my hates. Every book deserves love.
6. Love Triangles, yes or no?
YEEES! I love ‘love triangles’. I think it’s mostly because of Twilight that I do. Twilight is the book that got my into YA. It’s basically the book that made me find a new found love of reading. Definitely a Love Triangle supporter.
7. The Most Recent Book that You Couldn’t Finish?
Soo, just because I haven’t finished it doesn’t mean I won’t. It just means I put it down and haven’t picked it back up… yet. But it’s the second book to the Firstlife series, Lifeblood by Gena Showalter.
8. A Book You’re Currently Reading?
Bad answer alert: I currently have yet to pick another book up since finished Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson (exceptional read, highly recommend!)
9. Last Book You Recommended to Someone?
It would probably be this year’s Text Prize winner, ‘It Sounded Better in My Head’ by Nina Kenwood. Another incredible book.
HALFWAY! Oldest Book You’ve Read by Publication Date?
I had to do a little research for this answer, but it’s The Tempest by William Shakespeare, originally published in 1611.
11. Newest Book You’ve Read by Publication Date?
I’m actually not sure? Probably It Sounded Better in My Head by Nina Kenwood. It came out in August 2019 for Aussies, but I think Americans aren’t getting it until 2020.
12. Favourite Author?
Refer to question 4.
13. Buying Books or Borrowing Books?
110% buying. I work in a bookstore. I might just get burned at the stake for borrowing them, plus, the library wants the books back. What’s that about? They won’t look pretty on my shelf when the library wants to pinch them from me.
14. A Book You Dislike But Everyone Seems to Love?
I’m sorry, but Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo. It’s just way too slow-paced for me.
15. Bookmarks or Dogears?
Definitely bookmarks, but actually lately I just try to remember the number? I mean, it usually leads to a bit of fumbling, but mostly it works for me.
16. A Book You Can ALWAYS Re-read?
Refer to question 4.
17. Can You Read While Listening to Music?
It depends on my brain at the time. Sometimes it can be singing away in the background, sometimes in makes me grit my teeth and shout for it to be shut off. It depends.
18. One POV or Multiple?
Both. I don’t have a preference. I do have a preference once the book has started. If it starts with multiple, keep it at multiple. If it starts with one POV, keep it at one POV. Keep it stable and I’m happy.
19. Do You Read A Book In One Sitting or Over Multiple Days?
Typically I read one book a time in one sitting, but sometimes I’m too busy for that and it ends up spread over multiple days. Again, it depends.
LAST ONE! Who do you tag?
Whoever wants to do this! I don’t care, do it to your hearts content!
