Short tales from the Australian writers of tomorrow.
#LoveOzYA celebrates the best of new Australian writing for teenage readers. It has grown from a humble hashtag into a movement, reflecting the important role young-adult fiction plays in shaping our current generation of readers. This anthology collects, for the first time, some of the tremendous work from the #LoveOzYA community.
Featuring a foreword by award-winning Australian novelist Fleur Ferris (Risk, Wreck, Black and Found), Underdog celebrates the diverse, dynamic and ever-changing nature of our nation’s culture. From queer teen romance to dystopian comedy, from hard-hitting realism to gritty allegory, this brilliant, engrossing and inspiring collection of short stories will resonate with any teen reader, proving, yet again, why there is just so much to love about #LoveOzYA
Australian Young Adult fiction is a huge part of the Australian Reading community. The #LoveOzYA movement is incredibly powerful and incredibly important. It helps Australian authors connect with Australian readers. It helps promote themselves, having a brand before they have the chance to get their name out. I’m always eager to get my hands on a book written by an Australian, so having a book with a collection of Australian names, it’s heaven. It’s basically a little sampler!
There wasn’t a story I didn’t like in here. They were all incredible and fun. They all had their positives, and some had their negatives. I actually had the honour of meeting Tobias Madden and Sophie L Macdonald, which was an incredible experience. Both are super lovely people, and I can’t wait to read whatever they bring out next.
I highly recommend giving this one a read, there’s a few LGBT+ stories, some dystopian, and even one about an Australian myth. It’s super good!
