Arthur is only in New York for the summer, but if Broadway has taught him anything, it’s that the universe can deliver a showstopping romance when you least expect it.
Ben thinks the universe needs to mind its business. If the universe had his back, he wouldn’t be on his way to the post office carrying a box of his ex-boyfriend’s things.
But when Arthur and Ben meet-cute at the post office, what exactly does the universe have in store for them?
Maybe nothing. After all, they get separated.
Maybe everything. After all, they get reunited.
But what if they can’t quite nail a first date . . . or a second first date . . . or a third?
What if Arthur tries too hard to make it work . . . and Ben doesn’t try hard enough?
What if life really isn’t like a Broadway play?
But what if it is?
So freaking cute! Becky and Adam are the king and queen of LGBT fiction. It’s a known fact. The fact that these royals band together to create this beautiful lovechild is incredible. THEY NEED TO COLLAB MORE OFTEN. It’s really as simple as that.
What If It’s Us started exactly where it promised, in Meet-Cute city. The beginning of this novel is so adorable, if I was a chocolate bar I would have melted all over the pages. So freaking amazing, and a little far-fetched but I think that was the point. I think Becky and Adam wanted the Meet-Cute to be so freaking crazy that it seemed memorable. I loved that it was over the top and hectic.
These authors also know how to tie everything together in a perfect freaking bow. Every detail that was mentioned, small or large found its way, full-circle. Perfect. Nothing pleases my OCD more. Trust me.
I can’t dive full-depth into the plot. There are some things that if I even hint at, fans of these geniuses will pick up instantly. They both of quirks to their writing, that always happen repetitiously. So, I’m not going there. The plot was almost perfect is what I’m going to say, and even then that could be too much.
One thing I can say is that there were some predictable parts to this novel. There was at least 2 major things (that come to mind straight away) that I guessed. It made me a little sad and honestly, it’s what brought down my rating a little.
I very much enjoyed the style and tone of this book. Honestly, I can’t fault it in that department. Ben’s best friend MADE THIS BOOK for me. He was hilarious and caring and down right one of the best characters I have read in a damn long time. Definitely a huge, huge part of this book. Aahhhh!
I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. I did, from beginning to end. It’s not perfect but it’s pretty incredible.
The break down of my rating:
Style & Tone: 9/10
Enjoyment Factor: 8/10
