WE’RE DOING IT AGAIN! Our To Be Readathon!
By we, I do of course mean, the wonderful Alex Butler (@alexbutler.writer) and myself are going to be knuckling down for 24hrs to smash out as many books on our To Be Read(TBR) list as our little brains can handle.
When is this fabulous event? Well, gather ’round because it’s in two weeks! On the 22nd of January, 2018, it will begin. The time you choose to start is entirely up to you (we’re starting at 9am), and the length of the To Be Readathon is also up to you, however, it’s originally intended for 24hrs of pure reading bliss.
Don’t fret if you have work or school, or just want to sleep throughout the duration of some of the readathon, just do it. This Readathon is for your enjoyment only. So, sit back, relax and read in your free minutes to hours of this period. Set your own goals.
Now, what do I plan to read?
This is a tough cookie to answer. I’m honestly not 100% certain at this point, but I do have a goal: I want to read 1000 pages or more. I missed out on reading 1000 pages by roughly 60 or 70 pages, which was devastating.
At this point, my list is rather extensive. And I may change my mind leading up to the date. But, I’m sure that this large and rough list will be somewhat correct. Anyways, without further delay, my reading list:
#1: These Broken Stars – Amie Kaufman & Meagan
(And maybe the rest of the ‘Starbound’ trilogy)
Luxury spaceliner Icarus suddenly plummets from hyperspace into the nearest planet. Lilac LaRoux and Tarver Merendsen survive – alone. Lilac is the daughter of the richest man in the universe. Tarver comes from nothing, a cynical war hero. Both journey across the eerie deserted terrain for help. Everything changes when they uncover the truth.
The Starbound Trilogy: Three worlds. Three love stories. One enemy.
#2: Forsaken – Jana Oliver
(And also, maybe the rest of ‘The Demon Trappers’ series)
Riley Blackthorne just needs a chance to prove herself – and that’s exactly what the demons are counting on…
Seventeen-year-old Riley, the only daughter of legendary demon trapper Paul Blackthorne, has always dreamed of following in her father’s footsteps. The good news is, with human society seriously disrupted by economic upheaval and Lucifer increasing the number of demons in all major cities, Atlanta’s local Trappers Guild needs all the help they can get – even from a girl. When she’s not keeping up with her homework or trying to manage her growing crush on fellow apprentice Simon, Riley’s out saving distressed citizens from foul-mouthed little devils – Grade One Hellspawn only, of course, per the strict rules of the Guild. Life’s about as normal as can be for the average demon-trapping teen.
But then a Grade Five Geo-Fiend crashes Riley’s routine assignment at a library, jeopardizing her life and her chosen livelihood. And, as if that wasn’t bad enough, sudden tragedy strikes the Trappers Guild, spinning Riley down a more dangerous path than she ever could have imagined. As her whole world crashes down around her, who can Riley trust with her heart – and her life?
#3: More Than We Can Tell – Brigid Kremmerer
Aussie release: 1st April, 2018
Rev Fletcher is battling the demons of his past. But with loving adoptive parents by his side, he’s managed to keep them at bay…until he gets a letter from his abusive father and the trauma of his childhood comes hurtling back.
Emma Blue spends her time perfecting the computer game she built from scratch, rather than facing her parents’ crumbling marriage. She can solve any problem with the right code, but when an online troll’s harassment escalates, she’s truly afraid.
When Rev and Emma meet, they both long to lift the burden of their secrets and bond instantly over their shared turmoil. But when their situations turn dangerous, their trust in each other will be tested in ways they never expected. This must-read story will once again have readers falling for Brigid Kemmerer’s emotional storytelling.
#4: Say You’ll Remember Me – Katie McGarry
Aussie release: 22nd January, 2018
When Drix was convicted of a crime–one he didn’t commit–he thought his life was over. But opportunity came with the new Second Chance Program, the governor’s newest pet project to get delinquents off the streets, rehabilitated and back into society. Drix knows this is his chance to get his life back on track, even if it means being paraded in front of reporters for a while.
Elle knows she lives a life of privilege. As the governor’s daughter, she can open doors with her name alone. But the expectations and pressure to be someone she isn’t may be too much to handle. She wants to follow her own path, whatever that means.
When Drix and Elle meet, their connection is immediate, but so are their problems. Drix is not the type of boy Elle’s parents have in mind for her, and Elle is not the kind of girl who can understand Drix’s messy life.
But sometimes love can breach all barriers.
Fighting against a society that can’t imagine them together, Drix and Elle must push themselves–Drix to confront the truth of the robbery, and Elle to assert her independence–and each other to finally get what they deserve.
#5: Flamecaster – Cinda Williams Chima
A burning vengeance.
Adrian sul’Han, known as Ash, is a trained healer with a powerful gift of magic—and a thirst for revenge. The son of the queen of the Fells, Ash is forced into hiding after a series of murders throws the queendom into chaos. Now Ash is closer than he’s ever been to killing the man responsible, the cruel king of Arden. As a healer, can Ash use his powers not to save a life but to take it?
A blood-based curse.
Abandoned at birth, Jenna Bandelow was told the mysterious magemark on the back of her neck would make her a target. But when the King’s Guard launches a relentless search for a girl with a mark like hers, Jenna assumes that it has more to do with her role as a saboteur than any birth-based curse. Though Jenna doesn’t know why she’s being hunted, she knows that she can’t get caught.
Destiny’s fiery hand.
Eventually, Ash’s and Jenna’s paths will collide in Arden. Thrown together by chance and joined by their hatred of the king, they will come to rescue each other in ways they cannot yet imagine.
Set in the world of the acclaimed Seven Realms series a generation later, this is a thrilling story of dark magic, chilling threats, and two unforgettable characters walking a knife-sharp line between life and death.
As mentioned, this is a VERY excessive list, and there is no way I can read all of these in a 24-hour period. But I want to read all of these SO BADLY!
